Test Review thing.

  • Thoroughly Discuss the Causes and Effects of the Depression? People were unemployed, farmers couldn't produce crops, banks were running out of money,  Lots of poverty, under consumption,
  • What were the various solutions? WW2 Helped stop the depression by sending millions of people to the war and opening up millions of jobs. 
  • What were criticisms leveled at the New Deal-- The Republicans claimed that the New Deal was spending money the country did not have. The Left complained that he did not go far enough.
  • How effective was the New Deal-- Roosevelt's actions were ultimately successful in providing relief and reform, but were unable to bring about the recovery that was hoped for. Unemployment dropped significantly. But then increased soon after. This shows that Roosevelt's relief efforts were able to decrease unemployment but were unable to completely stop the problem.
  •  What were it’s lasting effects-- It did give the population confidence that the government was doing something.
1. Intro The depression was a lasting time that seemed forever. The solutions are still getting solved and the effects are still lasting. The war was a time that made the world lead to what it is now!

  • unstable economy--uneven distribution of wealth. decreased in demand.over speculating-- Borrowing money to buy stock. It was based on borrowed money not value.
  • government policy-- Federal reserve cut intrest rates to stimulate economy. Resulted in not having enough money to overcome the crash. 
  • Overspeculation- Borrowed money for stock. It was borrowed money not value. 
Cverspeculation (Define, how important)--Borrowing money to buy stock. Which was based on borrowed money not on value.

Govt Policy-- A plan or course of action, as of a government, political party, or business, intended to influence and determine decisions, actions, and other matters

Unstable Econ--uneven distribution of wealth. decreased in demand.over speculating-- Borrowing money to buy stock. It was based on borrowed money not value.

Uneven prosperity- The rich.

Overproduction- A relative measure, referring to the excess of production over consumption. The tendency for an over production of commodities to lead to economic collapse is specific to the capitalist economy.making to much wheat.

Worker issues--Migrant workers tended to live in horrible conditions. Farmers housed migrant workers in shanties, shacks, chicken coops, barns, portable wagons, and even open fields. IF they found a place it usually had broken windows, torn screens, missing doors, and leaky roofs. Most lived by themselves in the fields or in specially designated migrant camps. 

Farm issues-- Their fields became dry from the heat, grasshoppers destroyed the crops and farmers were left with no money to buy groceries or make farm payments. Some people lost hope and moved away. Many young men took government jobs building roads and bridges

Roosevelt-- Born on January 30, 1882, in New York, Franklin D. Roosevelt was stricken with polio in 1921. He became the 32nd U.S. president in 1933, and was the only president to be elected four times. Roosevelt led the United States through the Great Depression and World War II, and greatly expanded the powers of the federal government through a series of programs and reforms known as the New Deal. Roosevelt died in Georgia in 1945.

New deal--FDR's program that included relief, recovery and reform measures to fight the Depression.

Advertisement script

Man- before we get back to the second act of the Gibbson Family lets go back stage to take a closer look at at Sally and her maid Helga who is helping her get ready for her act.
Sally- Oh Helga I have never been so excited in all my life.
Helga- yes its so wonderful isn't it Ms. Sally.
Sally- yes it is. So how are you and henry?
Helga- Oh Sally I don't know, but if i had your complexion do you suppose Henry would love me more? Whats wrong with my face Ms. Sally? These red blotches just wont go away. What do you use? Some kind of beauty soap?
Sally- its called ivory Soap. Its from Thomas's old lady in her soap shop down there.
Helga- oh i must get some. Im tired of all the run down pores and applying oils and mysterious chemicals you see. Other soaps are filled with certain fatty acids and other things while the ivory soap can help clean and smoothen my skin.
Sally- Yes my doctor prescribed Ivory Soap to help smoothen the skin and cleans  through your pores making perfection.
Helga- Do you suppose Ms Sally that Henry....
